ABOUT US

Marcus Groves UKA Qualified

Marcus is a renowned UK salsa dancer, performer and teacher known for his boundless enthusiasm, energy and passion for the dance.

In 2003, Marcus' teaching career began and whilst teaching and DJ-ing at Tracie's Latin Club, Marcus quickly developed the considerate, attentive and humorous teaching style for which he is now known.  Marcus undertook some intensive training in New York in 2006 with the proponents of New York-style salsa; Eddie Torres, Nelson Flores and Frankie Martinez. Upon his return, Marcus then auditioned for and joined Manhattan Mambo; a New York On2 dance company based in London, directed by Jason Naraine and Amanda Nicholas. After a wonderful 3 years of training and performing throughout the UK with them, Marcus joined Ignite Dance Company with whom he still performs with today.

In 2012, Marcus was selected to be part of the Nick Frost movie, Cuban Fury and after some intensive auditions, was selected from hundreds of dancers to be a featured salsa dancer.

" A massive motivation for me to teach is to encourage dancers of all levels to grow and improve, so that they can enjoy their dancing and the world of salsa... it's not just a dance class..."

Elaine Greenwood

Elaine started taking classes in Ballet, Tap, Modern and Jazz when she was 9 years old and continued to do so until she stumbled across Riverdance in 1995, marking the beginning of her love for Irish Dancing. After competing and performing for over 10 years, Elaine's Irish Dancing success culminated in her gaining 1st place in England and 5th place in Ireland.

As an accomplished musician and singer, Elaine's passion for music and dance naturally led her to salsa and in 2005 her passion for the latin dance was born. She started attending regular classes near her home on the Isle of Wight, but it wasn't until she met choreographer Richard Marcel that her salsa career began, assisting him in the training of Rachel Stevens on Strictly Come Dancing 2008 and many other dance events around the UK.  In 2009, Elaine joined the Susana Montero Dance Company. The group, which included Susana herself, performed for a year internationally and in 2011 Elaine was invited to perform with Ignite Dance Company, with whom she still enjoys performing with today.  Most recently, Elaine was selected from hundreds to be a featured salsa dancer in the Nick Frost movie Cuban Fury.

Elaine is renowned as being a graceful and stylish dancer, easy and effortless to lead and for having the unique ability to switch expertly between cuban and cross-body styles. When teaching, Elaine brings her keen attention to detail and teaching experience to the dancefloor, considerately guiding her students to perfection!

Debbie Sherman UKA Quaified

Debbie learnt salsa for the first time in 2003 when she attended Tracie's Latin Club in Southampton and became addicted from that moment on.  Until then, Debbie's love for dance had been in the clubs to RnB, Disco, Heavy Metal and Rock n' Roll!

Salsa unleashed a whole new level of self expression for Debbie and she was soon attending 3-4 nights weekly plus countless weekend events, travelling miles to get her salsa fix (which she still does to this day).  It wasn't long before Debbie's teaching ambition was fulfilled as in 2005 she was part of the TLC team for Tracie Gooch.  Debbie then joined Marcus and the SouthCoastSalsa team in 2008.

"Helping people to develop the Salsa dancer within them fills me with great joy, and it's just such great fun. I hope to continue to do so for many years to come..."

In 2003 Bonita moved to Southampton to start University and in September 2004, she joined the SouthCoastSalsa team at Fords Social Club.
